With sadness, the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) has received news of the passing of former BIOS Trustee and BIOS UK Associates Chairman and Trustee, Mr. Maldwin Drummond.

Mr. Drummond first became involved in the then Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) in the late 1980’s.  He was elected a member of the corporation in 1991 and later became a trustee of the Station, before resigning in 1995 and concentrating his efforts with the UK Associates.

“Maldwin was a huge enthusiast for ocean science education, he enjoyed enormously being a Trustee of the UK Associates of BIOS and working with the BIOS team,” said Chris Day, current Chairman of the UK Associates of BIOS.  “With his help, over 100 students have been supported by the UK Associates of BIOS over the last 25 years, many of them going on to important roles in ocean and environmental science. Maldwin continued as a Trustee until his death and took much pleasure in the successes of our charity.”

The staff and board of BIOS extend its sincerest condolences to Mr. Drummond’s family.
