Formed in 2011, the Bermuda Marine Debris Taskforce is as a coalition of scientific and environmental organizations that aim to:
- Study marine plastics pollution, including an assessment of the quantity of marine debris on Bermuda's coastline and beaches
- Develop local solutions and advocacy initiatives
- Promote awareness of the impact of plastic debris on the environment and marine life
- Coordinate local efforts to remove plastic debris via cleanup efforts
BIOS is a member of the Marine Debris Taskforce, along with a variety of other local organizations including Keep Bermuda Beautiful, Greenrock, Bermuda National Trust, Bermuda Aquarium Museum & Zoo, and the Department of Conservation Services.
